Participants in SASA’s interdisciplinary colloquy on Eric Foner’s Pulitzer Prize-winning The Fiery Trial: Abraham Lincoln and American Slavery, midday on Friday, February 1, 2013:

Sean ADAMS, University of Florida

Molly FARRELL, Ohio State University

Eric FONER (also our keynote speaker), Columbia University

Leslie M. HARRIS, Emory University

Sherita JOHNSON, University of Southern Mississippi

Dennis MOORE, Florida State University, as moderator

Michael ROSS, University of Maryland

Shirley SAMUELS, Cornell University

This roundtable is SASA’s third in a row bringing together knowledgeable, articulate scholars to discuss a recent and noteworthy book with its author – and with that author participating in a lively conversation rather than sitting there as The Respondent.  In 2009, we discussed Unruly Americans and the Origins of the Constitution with Woody Holton, and then in 2011 we discussed Custerology: The Enduring Legacy of the Indian Wars and George Armstrong Custer with Michael Elliott.
